Until a few days ago, South Korea was fourth in the number
of coronavirus infections - it was replaced by Spain - but the Asian country
has managed to radically reduce the number of new infections and has become an
example of how to deal with a crisis of this magnitude.
South Korean authorities banned large gatherings, closed
educational institutions and other public spaces, and canceled all major sports
competitions shortly after the country's main outbreak around the city of Daegu
was discovered.
Furthermore, the transparency of the health authorities has
contributed to creating this general climate of collaboration. The Korea Center
for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) became a reference
thanks to the amount of detailed information it publishes daily.
Using ally technology, the South Korean government developed
two mobile apps to track symptoms of people who could potentially be infected,
and an alert system for those in breach of quarantine.
