Head of the Eurogroup calls for "a coordinated and far-reaching recovery plan"

The countries of the European Union (EU) must develop a "coordinated and far-reaching recovery plan," urged the president of the Eurogroup, the Portuguese Mario Centeno, before a meeting of the European Finance Ministers on the new coronavirus. .

“We all know that this is not the time to continue with the usual policies. We must show our citizens that Europe protects them. We must stand firm for them, "said Centeno, when countries are divided over their common economic response.

The question of a plan to face the current coronavirus crisis and revive the economy in the face of an expected recession divides the bloc, with some countries, such as the Netherlands and Germany, considering that it is early to tackle the recovery when the pandemic is in full swing in Europe.

Other countries, such as France, Italy and Spain, instead ask for an immediate commitment from Europeans in this regard, which, in his opinion, would imply greater solidarity between nations, especially through common debt.
