Movement restrictions begin to slow virus spread in Germany

Movement restrictions imposed in Germany are beginning to take effect and the spread of the new coronavirus is slowing down, said president of the institute Robert Koch for the control of the pandemic on Friday.

"We see how the spread of the virus slows down ... We are seeing that it works," Lothar Wieler said at a press conference, however, asking that the rules of confinement and distance between people continue to be respected.
Wieler explained that each person infected with the virus is now infecting just one on average, up from seven previously.

"If the number is less than one, it means that the epidemic is slowing down. This is our goal, "he said.

"We know that we have lowered this figure with the measures and we hope to lower it even more," he added.

However, Wieler asked the population to continue to comply with government restrictions, which include the prohibition of meetings of more than two people and require maintaining a distance between people of at least 1.5 meters.

According to data from the Institute on Friday, Germany had diagnosed more than 79,000 cases of coronavirus.
