Hutchinson is already in the race for the Republican presidential nomination

The former Republican governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, formally launches the race for the White House.

During an announcement Wednesday in his hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas, Hutchinson announced that he would join the growing field of contenders facing former President Donald Trump in the battle for the 2024 Republican nomination.

“Today I am announcing that I am running for President of the United States,” Hutchinson told supporters. "In this campaign for president, I'm only in terms of my experience, my record and leadership," he said.

"From Congress to the DEA to Homeland Security, I have served our country in times of crisis. As Governor of Arkansas, we cut taxes and created record surpluses. We increased teacher pay. We reduced regulations; contract industry and the sector private grew by more than 100,000 jobs. My mettle has been tested," Hutchinson said.
