US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the country
is prepared for the possibility of Iranian-linked actors attempting to carry
out attacks within US territory.
In recent statements, Hegseth explained that, although much
of the public's attention is focused on events abroad, authorities are not
neglecting the domestic front. He noted that the Department of Defense, in coordination
with other federal agencies, maintains active prevention and response protocols
for scenarios involving potential "sleeper cells"—individuals or
groups that could remain dormant until instructed to act.
The official emphasized that the current strategy combines
intelligence gathering, interagency cooperation, and reinforced security
measures at sensitive locations. He asserted that the goal is to anticipate any
potential threat and react swiftly should a specific situation arise.
While no specific cases were detailed nor was the existence
of operational cells in national territory confirmed, the official message
seeks to convey that the US security apparatus remains alert and prepared for
any eventuality arising from the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
