The technology company Google announced the construction of
a gigantic data center in Florence, a project valued at approximately $15
billion that aims to become one of the largest technology investments in the
region in the coming years.
According to the information released, the project will
generate thousands of jobs during the construction phase, in addition to
hundreds of permanent positions once the complex is operational. Local
authorities and company representatives emphasized that the project will boost
the regional economy, attract new investments, and strengthen the digital
infrastructure linked to the growth of artificial intelligence and cloud
services.
One of the most noteworthy aspects is that, according to
Google, the data center will use advanced air-cooling technology, which will
significantly reduce water consumption and avoid additional pressure on the
area's water supply, a common concern in these types of large-scale facilities.
The company also announced it will allocate approximately
$20 million to programs aimed at reducing electricity bills for local
residents, as part of a community support and energy offset package linked to
the project's development.
The announcement reflects the growing global competition to
expand the technological infrastructure needed to support the boom in digital
services and artificial intelligence, sectors that demand enormous data
processing and storage capabilities.
