UNITED STATES—House Majority Leader Steve Scalise called on
voters to turn out in large numbers in November and support Republican
candidates, warning of the consequences he believes a Democratic victory would
have.
Scalise focused his criticism on El Sayed, whom he
identified as a socialist politician and placed to the left of the candidates
linked to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
“It’s total chaos,” the Republican lawmaker said, referring
to the scenario he believes the House of Representatives would face if the
Democrats regained the majority.
The Republican leader maintained that a potential Democratic
majority would allow DSA proposals to gain greater influence on the national
political agenda.
“The DSA’s agenda will be America’s agenda, and America
doesn’t want that,” he stated. Scalise also used the phrase “total communist
takeover” to describe the scenario that, he warned, could unfold if Republicans
fail to retain control of the House.
His statements are part of a Republican strategy to mobilize
their base ahead of the November elections, in a contest where control of
Congress is once again a top priority for both parties.
