The change has generated comments on social media, where
some users interpret it as a sign that Disney is backtracking on some of the
cultural policies promoted by leftists in recent years.
In April, Disney began cutting around 1,000 jobs in various
areas, including marketing, studios, television, ESPN, products and technology,
and some corporate functions. D’Amaro explained that the measure is part of a
reorganization aimed at making the company more agile and efficient.
Versions circulating on social media have linked the layoffs
to a supposed strategy to recover a “common-sense culture” that will restore
the brand's standing with an audience that has rejected it in recent years.
Thus, although the return of traditional expressions like
“Ladies and gentlemen” marks a visible change in some Disney spaces, the
layoffs are not directly attributed to a campaign against inclusive language,
because Disney has not stated it as such. However, the events indicate a shift
that is interpreted as common sense, a culture that is resisting further
decline among American and global audiences.
