False doctor arrested who offered indigenous in Guatemala vaccination against coronavirus

A man posing as a doctor was arrested this Friday in an indigenous town in northern Guatemala for trying to sell an alleged vaccine against the new coronavirus, which has killed more than 11,000 people worldwide.

The alleged doctor, identified as Rodolfo García, was detained in the municipality of Chisec, 130 km north of the capital, after being denounced by residents of "offering and selling COVID-19 vaccine," the police said in a statement.

Local media released a video on social networks where the detainee, dressed in a medical gown and a stethoscope, announced a vaccination day in Chisec against the new coronavirus.

"We will be specifically vaccinating against COVID-19 (...). We are going to administer autoimmunization systems so that the body protects itself against this disease "at" very considered (low) prices, "Garcia announced in the video.

The detainee will be charged with the crime of fraud, the prosecution said.

To contain the advance of the new coronavirus, Guatemala closed airports and borders, prohibited the circulation of public transport and called to work at home to avoid crowds.

Guatemala registers 12 cases of COVID-19 infections, including one deceased. AFP
