Italy announces 25,000 million euros in aid to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus

The Italian government announced on Wednesday an exceptional aid of 25,000 million euros (28,300 million dollars) to fight the epidemic of the new coronavirus, which so far has left more than 600 dead in the country, official sources announced.

Of this sum, half will serve to attend to the most urgent and the rest will be used at a later stage.
"We have allocated extraordinary resources for a total of 25,000 million euros," announced the head of the government, Giuseppe Conte to the press at the end of the council of ministers.

Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieri said that a first decree is being drafted and should be signed this week for the use of 12,000 million euros immediately for the health sector.

This first decree provides, among other things, for the temporary suspension of the payment of certain maturities of real estate and bank loans, all with a partial guarantee from the State.

The compensation to be approved also includes aid to families with children and the most affected business sectors.
