Boris Johnson, the Brexit fighter knocked out by the coronavirus

Determined and optimistic, Boris Johnson, who pulled the United Kingdom out of the European Union in January after years of political chaos and paralysis, is now personally put to the test by the coronavirus, forcing him to be admitted to intensive care.

Not long ago, this cheerful 55-year-old blond, with undisciplined hair and an easy joke, assured that he continued to shake everyone's hand and that the important thing was to wash them often and for a long time: “the time it takes to sing twice 'Happy Birthday', ”he said.

Charismatic and controversial, he had seen his popularity skyrocket after gaining an overwhelming parliamentary majority in December that enabled him to deliver on his promise to "carry out Brexit."

And this continued to rise thanks to the forceful financial aid measures taken by his government to support the British economy during the hard times of the pandemic.

But he himself was diagnosed with covid-19 ten days ago and on Sunday, admitted to a London hospital at the decision of his doctors to undergo tests.

His collaborators claimed that he was “still in command” and he himself tweeted from his hospital bed that he was “in good spirits”, but less than 24 hours later he was on intensive surveillance and possibly with a respirator.
