El Salvador will close its beaches and other promenades to
tourism during Easter due to the quarantine in the country due to the
coronavirus pandemic, President Nayib Bukele announced this Saturday.
"The beaches, rivers, lakes, mountains, (tourist) towns
and other promenades are closed to internal and external tourism," said
the president on his Twitter account.
In normal weather, during Easter, Salvadorans often flock to
beaches and other spas throughout the country, or move to mountain tourist
sites or picturesque towns to enjoy gastronomic fairs.
As part of measures to try to contain the spread of the new
coronavirus, the Bukele government decreed a mandatory household quarantine
since March 21.
For today, the Police with the support of army soldiers
maintains a strict vigilance in all tourist sites to avoid crowds and people to
abide by household quarantine.
