Only yesterday the Citizen Observatory reported 15 state
irregularities related to COVID-19, from arbitrariness, to exposure of people
and health personnel, threats, coercion, harassment or retaliation, both in
State institutions and outside of these.
The observatory assumes as suspicious cases the complaints
of people who manage to confirm that they have symptoms of COVID-19, who were
treated in medical centers and then sent home without a convincing diagnosis,
with the order not to go out or talk about their condition , as well as
disclosures of public health system personnel after being verified.
Until now, the Ministry of Health is the only one that can
confirm cases of COVID-19, since the Government does not admit that the
examinations be carried out by independent laboratories.
The Nicaraguan government has not issued any type of
restrictions in the midst of the pandemic, nor has it announced social
prevention measures to mitigate its impact. The authorities maintain that they
are in a "surveillance and monitoring" phase.
In addition to not preventing the spread of SARS-coV-2, the
Nicaraguan government promotes mass activities, contrary to the recommendations
of the World Health Organization (WHO).
In view of the Government's position, Nicaraguans have taken
their own preventive measures, which include social isolation, voluntary
quarantine, and personal hygiene measures.
"Our decoration, our medals on the chest, is that we
all feel protected, because we are doing what we must do to protect,"
Murillo said two days ago, which earned him criticism for claiming other
people's dispositions.
COVID-19 arrived in Nicaragua in the midst of a
socio-political crisis that since 2018 has left hundreds of prisoners, dead or
missing, thousands of wounded and tens of thousands in exile.
