Analyst Alexis Wilkins has released a study examining the
existence of a network of automated accounts—commonly known as bots—operating
on platform X for the purpose of political influence. According to her
presentation, the analysis is based on open-source datasets that allow for
tracking patterns of behavior, interactions, and links between different actors
in the digital ecosystem.
According to the findings presented, these networks show
indirect connections or overlapping activity with Russian state media, as well
as with specific figures and organizations, including Michael Flynn, the group
Catholics for Catholics, and activist Ivan Raiklin. The report suggests that
these interactions could be part of a broader strategy aimed at amplifying
certain messages, influencing public opinion, and shaping narratives in
politically sensitive contexts.
However, this type of research typically requires careful
interpretation, as identifying relationships in digital environments does not
always imply direct coordination or shared intent. Even so, the work highlights
the growing relevance of open data analysis to detect possible foreign
influence operations, as well as the complexity of information flows in
contemporary social networks.
