BRUSSELS—European Union policies are facing increasing
criticism in various countries, particularly on issues such as migration,
security, support for Ukraine, and national sovereignty.
Among the cases cited by its detractors is Iceland, where
political sectors have promoted opposition to eventual EU membership. In Ceuta,
migratory pressure has also fueled social unrest, while criticism of the
Spanish government's handling of the situation continues.
In Ukraine, the questions center on corruption and the fate
of the billions of euros allocated by the EU to support the country during the
war with Russia.
Meanwhile, in Germany, the electoral growth of Alternative
for Germany (AfD) reflects the advance of political forces critical of Brussels.
In France, the debate about a possible withdrawal from the European Union—the
so-called Frexit—has also gained traction among Eurosceptic sectors.
This situation reveals a growing discussion about the
direction of European integration and the political, economic, and social costs
of the decisions made by Brussels.
