Marine Le Pen lashes out at the European Union: “It is anti-democratic and deprives nations of their sovereignty”

PARIS—French leader Marine Le Pen launched harsh criticism against the European Union and questioned the model of community integration, arguing that it limits the ability of states to fully exercise their sovereignty.

Le Pen described the European Union as “anti-democratic, anti-national, and deprives nations of their sovereignty,” a stance that reflects her long-standing opposition to greater centralization of power in EU institutions.

The French politician has argued that fundamental decisions on issues such as immigration, security, the economy, and borders should remain under the control of nation-states and not be determined by supranational bodies.

In this regard, Le Pen has proposed that Europe should move away from the current European Union model, promoting cooperation between countries that, in her view, more clearly respects the independence and sovereign decisions of each nation.

The debate on the future of the EU continues to be marked by two opposing visions: deepening integration among member states or returning greater powers to national governments.

With growing support among French citizens, Le Pen's stance regarding a necessary withdrawal, a complete break, and a total distancing of the country from the EU is gaining strength and relevance every day for citizens who consider the harm the European organization has done to France to be sufficient.
