WASHINGTON—US President Donald Trump expressed his interest in maintaining good relations with both Russia and Ukraine and highlighted the economic potential that, in his view, a positive relationship with Moscow would have.
“We want to have good relations with
Russia, Ukraine, with everyone. It would be great for business. Russia has
magnificent territory, very valuable territory,” Trump declared.
The US president's words emphasize the
possibility of developing economic relations with Russia, while also suggesting
the desirability of maintaining favorable ties with both sides in the
Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Trump has indicated on several occasions
that an improvement in relations between Washington and Moscow could open
economic and trade opportunities, as well as contribute to reducing
international tensions.
The reference to Russian territory also
underscores the importance that the US president attributes to the resources
and economic potential of Russia, a country that possesses one of the largest
land areas in the world and vast natural resources.
