Zohran Mamdani Reportedly Uses Private Channel with Influencers to Promote New York Programs

NEW YORK—New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is reportedly using a private network of approximately 200 social media influencers to disseminate information and promote city government programs, according to reports cited by Fox News.

The report states that members of this network have access to an encrypted group chat using Signal, a messaging platform known for its end-to-end encryption.

This strategy would allow the City Council to directly provide influencers with arguments, materials, and videos related to its programs and policies, with the goal of expanding their reach through platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media networks.

According to the reported information, these content creators would function as a kind of informal digital dissemination network for city initiatives, bringing the city government's messages to audiences that do not typically follow official City Hall channels.

The use of an influencer network to communicate public policies also raises questions about transparency, privileged access to information, and the boundary between institutional communication and political promotion.
