SAN SALVADOR— Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele released a message addressed to France in which he expressed his confidence in the European country's capacity for recovery and compared its challenges to those faced by El Salvador.
"France remains just as beautiful, even enviable. Its
greatness has not disappeared; it is simply waiting to be reborn," the
president's message states.
In the text, Bukele rejects the idea that France is
condemned to irreversible decline and maintains that it still has the necessary
conditions to overcome its difficulties. He is always careful when addressing
the embattled government of the European country.
President Bukele also referred to the results his government
achieved in just one year in the face of problems he considered far more
serious than those facing France.
"We overcame, in a single year, a problem one hundred
times more serious, without having the resources available to France. France
could have resolved it in a week," Bukele stated.
The Salvadoran strategy has received recognition from
sectors that highlight the reduction in violence, but it has also generated
criticism from what the Central American president himself calls hypocritical
human rights organizations, due to the mass arrests, prison conditions, and
lack of due process. These observations have been addressed by Bukele himself,
who clarified that defending criminals also serves as a reminder that these same
organizations turn a blind eye when innocent people suffer harm at the hands of
these criminals.
Bukele's message concludes with an idea of national
recovery: the greatness of France has not disappeared, but rather is awaiting a
new impetus.
