LIMA, PERU—The right wing has triumphed in Lima's municipal elections. Rafael López Aliaga, leader of Popular Renewal, won the election for Mayor of Metropolitan Lima, according to Datum's quick count, which gave him approximately 31% of the vote.
The result sparked celebrations among his supporters and
represents a significant victory for Popular Renewal in the Peruvian capital.
López Aliaga, who previously governed Lima and resigned from
the mayoralty in 2025 to participate in the general elections, headed the
Popular Renewal list this time as the first councilor, following Luis Rubio's
withdrawal from the mayoral race.
The election results left Popular Renewal in the lead in the
metropolitan vote, with Francis Allison of Avanza País in second place, while
Carlos Bruce of Somos Perú came in third.
The official count from the National Office of Electoral
Processes (ONPE) also maintained Popular Renewal in first place. With more than
90% of the ballots counted, the party led by López Aliaga had approximately
27.7% of the votes, compared to roughly 26.9% for Allison.
