Dollar bills that return to the United States after being
used in Asia are quarantined to limit the risks of spreading the coronavirus, a
Federal Reserve source (Fed, central bank) said on Friday.
These bills remain locked for a minimum period of seven to
10 days, instead of five days as before. The quarantine for tickets can last
even 60 days, said the source, which confirmed information from US media.
The measure has been in effect since February 21 and at the
moment it concerns only the tickets that arrive from Asia.
The central bank of South Korea also announced a quarantine
for paper money on Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
In China, the central bank disinfects and quarantines for up
to 14 days before they circulate again.
