With more than 3,400 deaths, Spain became the second country
with the most deaths from the coronavirus on Wednesday, ahead of China, a
country with which it closed a contract of 432 million euros to acquire medical
supplies.
In a week that was already predicting “very hard”, Spain
counts its daily deaths by hundreds: 462 on Monday, 514 on Tuesday and 738 on
Wednesday, a record figure in the country.
China, the place of origin of the pandemic, registered 3,281
fatalities to date and only Italy, with 7,503 deaths in its last balance, is
ahead of Spain.
Since March 14, the almost 47 million Spaniards have been
confined to their homes, which they can only leave to go to work if they cannot
do it remotely or for essential activities such as buying food or medicine.
Congress must ratify the extension of the state of alarm
until midnight from April 11 to 12 decreed by the government, which rules out
stopping all non-essential economic activity as Italy did.
