The Government of Brazil defends the return of cruises to a tourist paradise

The Brazilian Executive defends the gradual return and protected by environmental legislation of medium-sized cruises to the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, despite criticism from the regional government of Pernambuco, where these 21 paradisiacal islands are located.

The president of the Brazilian State Tourism Institute (Embratur), Gilson Machado Neto, told Efetur that the federal government does not intend to bring large ships to the archipelago.
"The ideal for Noronha would be ships of up to 600 passengers," said Machado Neto, who recalled that recently a ship with 85 passengers requested to dock in the archipelago, where this type of vessel has been banned since 2013 due to its potential environmental impact.
“People are going to get off and spend no more than three hours on the island to take photos. They do not cause an impact on the island, they do not interfere with the (limited) human cargo of the island, they do not stay overnight on the island, they do not sleep on the island, they sleep on the ship, "said Machado Neto.
