The Chinese parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of a controversial bill on Thursday, which will increase Beijing's control over Hong Kong's weakened electoral system. In this way, it is expected that opponents of the regime in Hong Kong and the sectors that advocate for the independence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), will be affected and with absolute restrictions to participate in politics.
The bill approved Thursday is decisive in changing Hong
Kong's electoral system, making it virtually impossible for the opposition to
affect the results of future elections.
The electoral reforms will further reduce democratic
representation in the former British colony and introduce a mechanism through
which the CCP will examine politicians' loyalty to the Chinese regime and thus
ensure that only so-called "patriots" can rule Hong Kong. In other
words, all kinds of opposition to the Chinese communist regime will be
eliminated, reported Fox News.
