The Alabama Senate has made the decision to veto
controversial gender-change treatments in minors after passing a bill that
precludes puberty blocker procedures, hormonal treatments or surgeries.
As National File notes, with a vote of 23-4 the “Protection
and Compassion for Vulnerable Children Act” was passed and anyone violating the
regulations could face a 10-year prison term, as well as a $ 15,000 fine.
"Children are not mature enough to make these decisions
about surgeries and medications," said Republican Senator Shay Shelnutt,
who was the main promoter of the bill.
Shelnutt, who welcomed the passage of the legislation,
claimed that there were better methods of treating gender dysphoria such as
counseling, although she stressed that it was not referring to counseling based
on gender identity. "The goal is to protect children," he added.MBLES
