Uruguay backs down, closes schools again

Countries like the United States, which have opened their economy and closed restrictions, at least in Republican states, have not reported an increase in infections of the Chinese virus. The opposite is the case in Latin American countries, where actions are taken to stop the resurgence of infections that are already living.

The Government of Uruguay, chaired by Luis Lacalle Pou, announced a series of measures aimed at reducing the number of infections by Covid-19.

The country, which as of March 23 registered a total of 86,007 coronavirus infections, has presented record figures since February and the authorities have announced the presence of the Brazilian variant of the disease in the territory.

Among the announcements made by the head of state is the suspension of face-to-face classes, which weeks ago had been established as mandatory, and the return to distance education.
