Mexican Consulates in the United States Under Investigation for Alleged Involvement in Internal Political Affairs

US authorities have reportedly placed at least 28 Mexican consulates in the United States under scrutiny due to allegations of possible interference in US domestic politics. The situation has generated concern in diplomatic circles and could lead to a stricter review of the activities carried out by Mexican missions in various US cities.

According to information published by journalist José Fonseca Menéndez, several complaints have reached the office of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The reports indicate that some consular offices were allegedly used to promote or support demonstrations critical of policies implemented by President Donald Trump, although without results. If confirmed, this could be interpreted as interference in US internal affairs.

According to reports, the State Department has ordered an investigation to determine whether Mexican diplomatic officials participated directly or indirectly in activities incompatible with the functions established by international norms governing the conduct of embassies and consulates.

Among the consular offices mentioned in the reports are those located in Miami and Sacramento. In the case of Miami, the administration of Rutilio Escandón has been specifically highlighted, although to date no official conclusions or public evidence have been released to confirm the accusations.

The issue could have significant diplomatic repercussions for the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States, especially in a political context marked by the debate on migration, border cooperation, and differences among various political actors in both countries. For now, the investigations are ongoing, and it is expected that U.S. authorities will determine whether there was conduct that warrants further administrative or diplomatic action.
