WASHINGTON—A new controversy is shaking the American political landscape following accusations from an ABC News whistleblower who allegedly signed a sworn statement in New York alleging irregularities in the organization of the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
According to the information released, the whistleblower
maintains that the Harris campaign dictated the questions for the debate and
pressured for real-time fact-checks against the then-Republican candidate.
The notarized document was reportedly sent to the Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson. Furthermore, the individual claims
to possess secret recordings that demonstrate manipulation of the debate by the
television network.
Among the accusations is that ABC News moderators allegedly
fact-checked Trump's statements on at least five occasions, while Harris's
claims did not receive equivalent scrutiny.
The whistleblower also questions how both candidates'
statements about past political events were addressed, including Trump's
comments about the events in Charlottesville and his warnings about the
consequences of a Democratic victory for the auto industry.
The case reignites the debate about media bias, transparency
in the organization of presidential debates, and public trust in U.S. election
coverage.
