It is a paradise
island located southeast of Thailand within the Gulf of Thailand. It is famous
internationally for the party of the Full Moon Party that is celebrated every
full moon on Haad Rin beach and on whose date it is full but it is also very
easy to find relaxation and tranquility the rest of the year. There are several
schools of yoga, reiki and alternative therapies, several massage centers,
desert paradisiacal beaches, beautiful waterfalls, sunrises, sunsets and
incredible views and offers a wide variety of activities.
Ko Phangan has two sister islands: Ko Samui in the south,
which is larger and has a larger population; and Ko Tao in the north that is
smaller and quieter.
Ko Pha Ngan has an area of 168 km². Administratively it
forms an amphoe, of the same name as the island, which is part of the province
of Surat Thani. The population in 2004 was 11,846 inhabitants. The largest
population of the island is Thong Sala.
