The Washington Post issued a correction to a January 9 story
claiming that then-President Donald Trump had told a Georgia state election
investigator to "find the fraud." In fact, an audio recording showed
that Trump said no such thing.
The post's original article was titled: '' Finding the Fraud
': Trump Pressed a Georgia Elections Investigator in a Call Independent Legal
Experts Say It Could Amount to Obstruction.' 'It was based on information from
a single anonymous source, described as "A person familiar with the call
who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the
conversation."
However, the post has now changed the title and issued a
correction as of March 11.
The audio shows that early January reports of that call,
based on anonymous sources, misquoted Trump. In those reports, Trump was quoted
as urging Watson to "find the fraud," and if he did, the investigator
would be a "national hero."
Media such as CNN published these quotes, corroborating what
the Washington Post reported for the first time. While CNN's version, which
relies on a single anonymous source, remains unchanged, the Washington Post
placed a long correction note at the top of its report ...
Both CNN and the Washington Post previously reported that
state officials said they did not believe a recording of the Trump-Watson call
existed, but in recent days both have new reports saying officials found the
recording in the trash folder of Watson on their device while responding to a
public records request.
